About our Association
The MSSA is a volunteer organization founded in 1924. As the governing body of amateur soccer in Maryland, our mission is to promote and foster soccer in the state. We provide opportunities for adults to continue playing the game they love, whether at the highest competitive level or recreational play. There is no reason to quit after your adolescent years. We live by our motto, “Still Getting Our Kicks.”
Affiliations
Our association, affiliated leagues, teams, and players are members of the United States Soccer Federation and the United States Adult Soccer Association. Membership through US Soccer means we are part of the Fédération International de Football Association (FIFA) and the US Olympic Committee.
We have a comprehensive cup program which makes our teams eligible for regional & national competitions. Maryland has a rich history of teams that have won at the state, regional and national level. The Rowland Cup was first played in 1914 and is Maryland's open competition. The Stewart Cup began in 1932 for teams vying for the state's amateur title. We also offer the Maryland Over-30, Over-40 & Over-50 as well as the Morton Cup, which was created for teams not competing in the Rowland or Stewart. Our teams also are eligible to play tournaments organized by our leagues and other US Adult Soccer members.
The US Adult Soccer Risk Management Insurance Program covers all players, teams, and leagues. This program’s primary component is the package of insurance coverage that reduces the risk for our members.
This comprehensive plan provides protection in case liability claims arise from activities organized by our members. Members will be protected if they are sued for incidents involving bodily injury or property damage resulting from an amateur soccer activity. The Accident Risk policy helps defray medical and dental expenses incurred by players injured during sanctioned games.

Referees play an integral part of the game. With the responsibility of the oversight and development of referees statewide, the MSSA through its Referee Committee provides training, clinics and assessments for beginning and experienced referees. Our goal is to get the best-qualified, experienced and knowledgeable referees to officiate our games.
