MSSA Cups
The Maryland cup tradition has a long and rich history that goes back more than a century. The Rowland Cup is Maryland's oldest cup competition, first played in 1914, and is the state's open championship. The Stewart Cup began in 1932 for teams vying for the state's amateur title. The Morton Cup was created to honor former MSSA Vice President Darwin "Lefty" Morton and is for teams not competing in either the Rowland or Stewart Cup. We also offer the Maryland Over-30, Over-40 & Over-50 Cups. Our teams also are eligible to play tournaments organized by our leagues and other US Adult Soccer members.
2024 Cup Registration Now Open
New Event to Celebrate MSSA Centennial
(20 October) We are now accepting applications for the 2024 Cup Season, one that will celebrate 100 years of the Maryland State Soccer Association. Along with our usual menu of contests that include the Rowland, Stewart, Morton, Maryland Over-30, Over-40 & Over-50 Cups, next year we will also add the Maryland-District-Virginia Cup as part of our centennial milestone. Registration will be open until 1 December.
Play will start in January and we look to complete by March. Several of our winners will advance to the qualifiers for USASA Region I. The Morton and M-D-V Cups are state only competitions. Review the eligibility requirements below as some of our contests are restricted.
A draw will be held for all of our cups. Teams must enter online through the links below. The deadline to enter the cups is 1 December 2023. Referee fees for the cups are $240 ($120 per team) and paid at the field by each team. Matches will be played primarily on Sundays. Rowland, Morton, MD O-30, O-40 & O-50 Cups
The Rowland Cup is Maryland's oldest cup competition, first played in 1914. It is Maryland's open championship. The winner of the Rowland Cup will advance to the USASA Region I qualifiers for the Werner Fricker Cup. The Morton Cup was created in honor of former MSSA Vice President Darwin "Lefty" Morton. For years, Lefty could be found on the touchlines (usually near the corner) of the various Maryland cup competitions. This cup is for teams not entering either the Rowland or Stewart Cups. It is a state cup and the winner does not advance to any regional qualifier. The Maryland O-30, O-40 & O-50 Cups are the Maryland championships for those age categories. The winners will advance to the USASA Region I qualifiers. Teams registered and playing in any MSSA affiliated league are eligible to enter the Rowland, Morton & Over Cups. Teams playing in non-affiliated leagues are eligible for the Morton & Over Cups but must register all of their players prior to taking part in the competition. A draw will be held for all of our cup competitions.
The cups will begin as early as January with matches played primarily on Sundays. Teams must enter online through the link below. The deadline to enter the cups is 1 December 2023. The entry fee is $155 per cup (convenience fee included) and must be paid online.

Maryland-District-Virginia Cup
As part of our centennial celebration, the Maryland State Soccer Association will host a special event inviting teams affiliated with the US Adult Soccer Association to take part in the Maryland-District-Virginia Cup. The idea is to have the best sides in the area compete for this special honor. While intended primarily for those clubs in the three jurisdictions, teams from neighboring states affiliated with USASA are invited as well. Teams registered and playing in any MSSA/USASA affiliated league are eligible to enter. Teams not affiliated with MSSA/USASA are not eligible. The format envisioned would be group play that will conclude with semifinals and final. The field will be limited to 16 teams. Most of the matches will take place during the seasons break between January to March 2024 with the groups alternating from week to week. The semifinals and final will likely be scheduled during the spring.
