MSSA Cups

The Maryland cup tradition has a long and rich history that goes back more than a century. The Rowland Cup is Maryland's oldest cup competition, first played in 1914, and is the state's open championship. The Stewart Cup began in 1932 for teams vying for the state's amateur title. The Morton Cup was created to honor former MSSA Vice President Darwin "Lefty" Morton and is for teams not competing in either the Rowland or Stewart Cup. We also offer the McGrath (Over-30), Maryland Over-40 & Over-50 Cups. Our teams also are eligible to play tournaments organized by our leagues and other US Adult Soccer members.
Four Crowned Three More to Go
(9 March) We had four finals played this past Sunday, a positive sign after our long layoff. The first of the day was the McGrath Cup, the Over-30 championship for Maryland. Christos FC kept its grip on the competition edging Yinz O30 1:0. It is the club's sixth straight O-30 title, its thirteenth overall. Christos qualified for the Region I tournament.
A new name has been carved on the Maryland Over-40 winners roll. FBC trounced AAC Rowdies 6:1 to lift the trophy and right to represent the state in the Region. This was the first time the DC Premier League club entered the cup.
The Morton Cup was the third final of the day with Das Bierhalle FC winning its third title. They defeated MoCo 1776 FC 6:0, scoring 3 goals in each half. The Morton is a state only championship. We concluded the day at Martin Luther King Park in Silver Spring with the Stewart Cup. Christos made it three in a row with a 3:0 shutout of Baltimore City FC. The first half ended scoreless and Christos took off with a quick counter in the first minute of the second half run away with it. Both sides will represent Maryland in the Region I Amateur Cup qualifiers. Baltimore City will head out to cup holder West Chester United while Christos will host Jugadores of Pennsylvania West on 29 March at Arundel High School.
Los Toros awaits the winner between cup holder Ristozi FC and Christos FC for the MDV Cup final. The two meet Wednesday night at Troy Park.
